Happy Birthday America...

This blogger was going to blog/complain about all the loud fireworks, the stench of barbecues & the mindless patriotism of what he considers to be a stupid holiday (not declaring independence from Great Britain in 1776 but rather the aforementioned fireworks, barbecues & mindless patriotism of today), but no sense getting myself all riled up. By the time I get this post all put together it'll probably be July 5th anyway so what the heck.

Instead this blogger will share one of his favorite books for stealing ideas for drawings: Clowns by John H. Towsen. I happened upon a copy of this for a few dollars in a bookstore in the French Quarter in NOLA a few years ago. Glad I got it for a reasonable price unlike the copies on Amazon!  Here's some sample drawings I did from this book (the page numbers are indicated on the drawings):

Of course I added some things & probably omitted some things but these are some drawings based on a gold mine of clown photos & drawings contained in this book. By the way this book is a history of clowns in case you were wondering. This blogger hasn't actually read it--well a few sentences here & there but he's mostly mining it for drawing material as clowns are one of this blogger's favorite archetypes & this book is chock full of them-- much like the world this blogger lives in, metaphorically speaking of course...

Anyway, that's it for the latest blog post in the renaissance of blogging here at the Indolence IncK. blog...
